About this site

What this is
and why it exists.

Buried Pipe Calc is an independent technical resource for Australian and New Zealand engineers working with buried flexible pipeline design under AS/NZS 2566.1. It exists because no equivalent free resource does.

The SERP for AS2566 is dominated by paywalled standards stores, unlicensed presentation decks, and manufacturer product pages. There's no independent, plain-English guide that explains the standard clearly — and no free calculator that implements it correctly. This site aims to fill that gap.

01
Independent. This site is not affiliated with any manufacturer, standards body, or engineering firm. The calculator and guides are free and carry no commercial agenda.
02
Technically accurate. Every article references specific AS2566.1 clause numbers. The calculator implements the published equations — including the Leonhardt ζ factor, both buckling equations (Eqs 5.4(4) and 5.4(5)), and the shape factor Df from Eq. 5.3.1(3).
03
Conservative about scope. The articles here are published carefully and updated when the technical community identifies issues. Articles are not published to fill a content quota — they're published when they're ready.
04
A design aid, not a substitute. The calculator outputs must be verified against the full standard by a suitably qualified engineer. This is stated clearly on every page.
